Kucinich at Hempfest

It gives you a measure of just how far left Seattle leans that Hempfest is the largest annual gathering of marijuana advocates in the world.

Tens of Thousands of people attend the three-day political rally and concert on the Seattle waterfront.  It even has its own Wikipedia page.  While several local politicians have attend the August rally, this year Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich decided to attend.  I wouldn’t care what Kucinich does, but he might soon become a Washington State congressman.

In an earlier blogpost I said that while Washington State is gaining a district because of population growth, Ohio is losing two.  “If Dennis Kucinich intends to stay in congress, he will either have to fight it out in Ohio or he could move to a state that is gaining a district and run.”  He keeps showing up at events in Washington.  Either he really likes our weather or he is maneuvering for political position.

The interviewer in the second video is Nick Gillespie, editor of Reason.com and Reason.tv, both libertarian sites.  Libertarians don’t necessarily like pot, but they tend to support drug legalization because they believe in personal freedom and individual responsibility.  The idea is that it is your body and you can do with it what you want.

While libertarians support legalization on philosophical grounds, I think Kucinich attended Hempfest looking for votes.  He knows that his political base has smoked a lot of pot.
