The Bell Tolls

          After President Obama signed the healthcare bill into law any illusions I could have maintained that it would not be too bad were aborted when I checked the Planned Parenthood website mere hours later.  One word stood out in large black letters—VICTORY!  What the Democrats call healthcare reform, I call the biggest expansion of government in more than a generation. 

          In the struggle for freedom, we know this is not the end of the fight—it isn’t even the beginning.  Historians will argue when the battle began; was it the populism of Teddy Roosevelt, the New Deal of Franklin Roosevelt or Johnson’s War on Poverty?  Quite probably, the struggle began the day after the Constitution became law.  It does not matter to the soldier when or how the war began.  They simply fight to survive.  Conservatives and libertarians find themselves in midst of a great struggle and we wonder, will our sweet land of liberty survive? 

          Countless patriots have paid with their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to establish and preserve a government that respected private property and individual liberty, but in these last generations, we have grown weary of the task.  We have asked the government to solve all of our problems and then ignored the giant, power hungry, bureaucracy our desires brought into creation.  From Roe v. Wade to Engel v. Vitale and Kelo v. City of New London, our elected and appointed officials have repeatedly sought, taken and then abused power.  With immense pride and boosting, politicians taxed us and then gave the fruits of our labor to their friends, confident that our money would keep them in power forever.   

          That monstrosity that we allowed to grow has ignored our wishes and instituted a huge, unconstitutional, expansion of government under the misnomer of healthcare reform.  We the people will soon be paying for abortions, have our care rationed and be required by our political masters to buy health insurance from their approved list.  While some states are willing to sue over the Medicaid mandate in the bill, dare we trust our freedom to those men in black robes? 

          The liberty bell tolls for us, calling all true patriots to action.  Will we halt the advance of statism and big, repressive, government or will our posterity live under a government the Founding Fathers would have overthrown?
