Abortion Coverage and Healthcare Reform
Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 8:46PM Mere months ago the Los Angeles Times and other mainstream liberal media outlets assured us that the healthcare reform bill did not cover abortion. CBS News went so far as to label abortion coverage a myth. Have you noticed that the Democrat politicians and their friends in big media are no longer denying such claims? Now all the talk is about how to get pro-life Democrats to support the bill. Everyone in Washington D.C. knew that without an explicit ban, abortions would be funded.
If the House passes the Senate bill, I am certain taxpayers will be paying for abortions. The “deem and pass” procedural ploy is simply a means to provide some cover for pro-life Democrats who are, as I write, being cajoled and threatened in order to secure their vote for the bill. The byzantine path of abortion funding is purposeful. Abortions supporters hid their work in the dark corners of the bill hoping we would not notice but, unlike many of our elected representatives, numerous conservatives read the bill and followed the money trail of abortion funding. Americans United for Life has the best chart I’ve seen showing how abortions will be funded if this bill is passed.
There are many reasons not to support this bill beyond abortion coverage. I have sent a email to my representative, Brian Baird, telling him that I do not want my tax dollars paying for abortions and I do not want this bill passed. He is retiring so I can’t hold him accountable this November, but it should still be an interesting election season.
