A Legislative Waste of Time – Senate Bill 6249
Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 7:39PM The Washington State legislature is only part time. Every year our elected representatives tell voters how heavy the workload is and how they need more time to solve the complex problems of the state. Of course, if we had a fulltime legislature it would necessitate increasing their salaries. What might our elected representatives do if they were passing laws all year long?
Well, with the worst recession since the great depression, a state budget shortfall of over 2.6 billion dollars and an unemployment rate of nearly 8.8 percent, nine of our state senators decided that the best thing they could do is introduce Senate Bill 6249. According to the Tacoma News Tribune the bill would, if passed, “remove from state law any references to school kids that are considered negative.” Washington students who had been “at-risk” would then be “at-hope.” The nine senators that believe this is the best use of their time and our tax dollars are, Franklin, Kauffman, McAuliffe, McDermott, Regala, Keiser, Kilmer, Hatfield, and Fraser.
Can you image what they would do if they had more time?
