North to Alaska
Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 7:05PM Well, it is that time of year again. Tomorrow will be a busy day of packing, church and saying goodbye to friends and family. Late that day I leave from SeaTac airport, outside of Seattle, fly to Anchorage, then catch another airplane to Bethel and in the early morning hours of Monday arrive by bush plane at the village of Eek where I teach. This will be my third year teaching in the tiny, close-knit community, southwest of Bethel.
Since there are no roads to the village, everything normally comes in by either barge, during the summer, or bush plane. I hope that our winter supply of food and necessities is already on the way to the village. As you can imagine it takes awhile to settle in so, I request your indulgence for a few days while I unpack clothes, stack food and get ready for the school year that starts August 17th. I hope to post again by this coming Thursday or Friday.
In the meantime, I found a copy of Obama’s Healthcare bill (HR 3200) with citizen comments. Unlike many John Conyers and other members of congress, I am trying to read and understand the bill but frankly, I find the comments more interesting. Look at the bill, read the comments, you’ll probably be better informed than your congressperson.
