Blame America

The blame America chorus has a new vocalist in Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. The Wall Street Journal and Reuters both quote him in a recent speech to the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai as stating,

“It’s important that those who consume the products being made all around the world to the benefit of America — and it’s our own consumption activity that’s causing the emission of greenhouse gases, then quite frankly Americans need to pay for that.”

In other words, it is the position of the Obama administration that since Americans buy products from China, Americans are responsible for the pollution in China and the U.S. Taxpayer should pay to clean it up.

Gary Locke is a former governor of Washington State and a Democrat party liberal through and through. I am glad he is no longer my governor, but it is unfortunate for the nation that this type of thinking so easily finds acceptance in the other Washington.
